Hyaluronic gel injections, Medicare-covered relief
One of the few Medicare-covered options in our clinic. Real pain relief for knees and shoulders without surgery.
Hyaluronic gel is a viscous, joint-fluid-like material injected into the knee or shoulder to restore lubrication, cushioning, and pain-free motion. At Kentuckiana Integrative Medicine these injections are Medicare-covered for qualifying patients, along with many commercial plans, which makes them one of the most accessible regenerative options we offer.

What it does
Why hyaluronic gel works for arthritic joints
Healthy joints are lined with cartilage and filled with a gel-like joint fluid rich in hyaluronic acid. In osteoarthritis, both the cartilage and the fluid break down. The joint becomes drier, less shock-absorbing, and more painful.
A hyaluronic gel injection replaces part of that lost fluid with a clinically formulated viscous gel, Genvisc 850 and similar preparations. Under ultrasound guidance, we place the gel in the exact joint space that needs it. The result for many patients is smoother motion, reduced pain, and better walking, often for months at a stretch.
Who qualifies
Coverage and candidacy
Medicare and many commercial plans cover hyaluronic gel for knee osteoarthritis and, in some cases, shoulder osteoarthritis, for patients who meet imaging and exam criteria. Our team verifies coverage up front so you know your out-of-pocket before we schedule the injection.
- 01Knee osteoarthritis confirmed by imaging
- 02Shoulder osteoarthritis, case-by-case coverage
- 03Patients who have not responded to NSAIDs or physical therapy alone
- 04Older adults who are not strong surgical candidates
- 05Younger patients who want to delay or avoid joint replacement
- 06Patients managing both knees, who benefit from repeated series over time
The visit
How a gel injection visit runs
You arrive, check in, and sit with our team briefly to confirm the plan. The injection is guided by ultrasound and takes just a few minutes per joint. There is minimal downtime. Most patients walk back to their car and drive home.
A typical course is a series of injections spaced a week apart, depending on the specific product used and your coverage. We track your pain and function at each visit and plan the next step accordingly.
Call (812) 913-4416 to verify your coverage and schedule a consultation. For older patients especially, this is often the lowest-risk high-impact step we can take for an arthritic joint.
