IV chelation therapy, grounded in the TACT trial

Evidence-based adjunctive cardiology. Not alternative medicine.

IV chelation therapy removes plaque-contributing metals from the bloodstream. The peer-reviewed TACT trial, led by Harvard cardiologist Dr. Gervasio Lamas, MD, demonstrated cardiovascular benefit in post-heart-attack patients. At Kentuckiana Integrative Medicine, chelation is administered by a physician certified in the protocol, often paired with IV Plaquex for patients with advanced cardiovascular disease.

The trial

What the TACT trial showed, in plain language

The Trial to Assess Chelation Therapy (TACT) was a multi-center, peer-reviewed study led by Dr. Gervasio Lamas, MD, a cardiologist trained at Harvard and Mount Sinai. Published in 2013 in the Journal of the American Medical Association, TACT evaluated EDTA-based chelation as an adjunct to standard care in patients who had already survived a heart attack.

The trial found a statistically significant reduction in cardiovascular events in the chelation arm, especially in diabetic patients. This is peer-reviewed, JAMA-published, cardiologist-led evidence. It is not alternative medicine.

Who benefits

Conditions we treat with chelation

Chelation is most useful when plaque, heavy metal burden, or both are contributing to the patient's clinical picture. We use it as part of a broader cardiovascular plan that includes labs, imaging review, and lifestyle direction.

  • 01Advanced heart disease and post-heart-attack support
  • 02Peripheral artery disease with poor blood flow to the legs
  • 03Brain vascular disease and carotid artery narrowing
  • 04Atrial fibrillation support
  • 05Documented heavy metal toxicity
  • 06Diabetic patients with cardiovascular risk

The visit

What a chelation IV visit is like

You arrive, check in, and settle into one of our IV therapy chairs. The infusion runs on a slow, physician-monitored drip that takes a few hours. Most patients read, work, or rest during the session.

A typical course runs a series of infusions over several weeks, with lab monitoring between visits. We often pair chelation with IV Plaquex, phosphatidylcholine, which targets the lipid component of vascular plaque directly.

Call (812) 913-4416 to schedule a cardiovascular consultation. Bring recent cardiology notes and imaging if you have them. We will tell you plainly whether chelation is the right tool for your case.
